Africa Catalyzing Action for Nutrition

Nutrition cuts across sectors; AfriCAN cuts across disciplines

Africa Catalyzing Action for Nutrition (AfriCAN) is a continent-wide and African-led organisation that mobilises commitment of a multi-disciplinary group of people bound by a common vision for a healthy and well-nourished Africa. AfriCAN positions women as the key to sustainable development through improved nutrition, health, and well-being. We seek to catalyse nutrition action at every stage of the life cycle while emphasising the critical stages of childhood, adolescence, pregnancy, and lactation. AfriCAN's niche is at the community level, working in partnerships to inform, educate, advocate, and inspire action at all levels towards the goal of “nutrition literate” communities. AfriCAN recently rolled out its "Good Nutrition Starts With Me" youth initiative in Cameroon, Gambia, and Ghana, where the main activity is enhancing the capacities of youth as the foundation for nutrition-literate communities.

OUR MISSION: To mobilize Africa's untapped and underutilized resources towards improving nutrition sustainably on the continent.

OUR VISION: A Healthy and Well-Nourished Africa

OUR GOAL: Nutrition literate communities with the knowledge, skills and will to improve their nutrition situation individually and collectively.
